It's December 1st! With it comes some unusually warm weather in my parts along with some possible rain. I suppose if you compared this year to last, though, it wouldn't be so unusual. Oh well. The beautiful thing about the warmer air is that it will allow me to put up lights on the house and not freeze my tush off. If it were chilly out, I would hope to have one of these ear warmers to wear. It's a modified version of those headbands and that wouldn't always stay on your head! I liked the idea of not having a whole hat on my head when I was young, but those ear warmer headbands would never stay in place for me! Plus, the ones I had were super chunky which wasn't that fashionable either. This ear warmer, however, is fantastic. It's wide to cover the ears, thin so it's not too bulky on the head, and very warm! I believe the best thing about it is the button fastener. Unlike the headbands, this ear warmer allows you to wrap it around your head without messing up your hair. It also fits more securely on your head as opposed to the other headbands. So, if you're looking for a way to keep your ears warm this winter and look great doing it, head over to my Etsy shop to find the one pictured. I hope to get some more in the shop in the next few weeks, too. Don't forget, you can always message me for a special request! ;)

I am an absolute lover of winter scarves. I don't wear the cloth, fashion ones, simply the warm fuzzy ones while it's cold. I actually attempted collecting a scarf for each country I went to during the few trips I had over seas. I only ended up with England and Germany, an utter failure. Oh well! Now I know how to make my own. Scarves are a great way to start out learning how to knit. I actually started learning to knit by making a scarf (which I actually never did finish). I practiced the simple knit stitch to begin. If you repeat that stitch back and forth, you will create what is called a garter stitch. The opposite of the knit stitch is the purl stitch. Alternating the purl stitch with the knit stitch (ex. row 1 purl, row 2 knit, row 3 purl, ect.) you will create what is called a stockinette stitch. The beautiful thing about scarves is that you don't really need a pattern to make one. Just simply use your favorite stitch, knit it as wide as you want, and as long as you want! Most stitch patterns are just a combination of the knit and purl stitches. Some require a few more elements, but are rarely hard. Here's a website for some fun stitches that I enjoy: New Stitch a Day If you're not a knitter, you can find some beautiful scarves that I will be adding to through the winter months in my Etsy Store. If you have a special request, I am more than happy and capable to make what you need. Message me here on Weebly or through Etsy! This is my first official blog post for the Miss Niss Craftworks blog! I am pretty darn excited to have started it and hope all of you out there will enjoy it, too. I started this blog as a way to further promote my new business. Blogging isn't new to me, since I started one with my husband a couple years ago called Cents to Share which is becoming decently popular. I still occasionally offer some gems to the website, but right now it's not in the foreground of our lives. Since the weather is beginning to get significantly cooler where I live I thought I'd give you a special look at the baby booties I make. The pattern is an adaption of a similar pattern I once saw. It's a relatively easy pattern in which you knit a flat fabric and sew it all together! I make the entire booty out of yarn so that little buttons can't be pulled off by baby and swallowed. Note the cute spiral yarn buttons and the decorative shoe laces. They really add a lot to the booties themselves. I was thinking about it, these booties would have been perfect for your kiddo this Halloween to keep his or her feet warm! Oh well, there's always a Holiday gift or birthday. :) Fun Fact: I can also make slipper booties for adults. I recently had a special order that asked for this, so I took the time to make up a pattern for the recipient and they turned out great! I'll post more about those another day. For now, enjoy these cute booties. Click on the picture to take you to the store and/or leave a comment below! Happy Halloween, stay safe and have fun! *Below is the sizing chart I use for the babies.* |
