Contrasting Toe, Heel, and Cuff Tutorial

Rejoice Sock knitters, the Vanilla Ridge Sock pattern is now available in a toe-up pattern! 

I realized that not everyone enjoys a cuff down sock.  I think they do fit my feet a little better, too.  So, I looked through my sock yarn and pulled some left-overs to knit up a sample of the toe up version.

This particular pair features contrasting toe, heel, and cuff.

The process is pretty straightforward to an experienced sock knitter, but I thought I would give you a few hints on how to achieve this look with your own set of Vanilla Ridge Socks with contrasting colors

Tutorial

              Cuff Down Sock

Cuff
Begin pattern with contrast color.  Knit the cuff portion of the pattern with contrast color and then switch to main color at leg portion of pattern.

Heel
Switch to contrast color, but before you knit the heel pattern knit across and back with contrast color.  This will set up an even looking contrast heel. 
Switch to main color, k2tog twin stitches twice, knit across heel to last two twin stitches, k2tog twin stitches twice.  Knit to beginning of round.
Continue pattern as written

Toe
Switch to contrast color once you reach the point where the purl ridges begin.  Finish the sock pattern with your contrast color.

                 Toe Up Sock

Toe
Begin sock with contrasting color.  Continue knitting with the contrasting color until the purl ridges end in pattern.  Switch to main color.

Heel
Switch to contrast color, but before you knit the heel pattern knit across and back with contrast color.  This will set up an even looking contrast heel.
Switch to main color, k2tog twin stitches twice, knit across heel to last two twin stitches, k2tog twin stitches twice. Knit to beginning of round.
Continue pattern as written.

Cuff
Once you have reached the desired leg length switch to contrast color.  Knit one round and then continue in pattern.
